Kawazu-zakura (河津桜): clouds of soft pink blossoms

Kawazu-zakura are among the earliest cherry blossoms to bloom in Japan, typically reaching full bloom in early February. Known for their vivid pink color and dreamy, cloud-like appearance, these blossoms paint the riverside town of Kawazu in soft pastels before most other varieties appear. This piece captures the artist’s memory of seeing them for the first time—an early spring filled with delicate pink blooms.
